steering column shimmy

the other day i was driving down the interstate and my jeep stuck in a pull to the right. i forced it to the left (experiencing a death wobble i hope to never have again) and now my steering column seems to have some play in it. it also sound loose in my dash. any insight on what to start looking for, hopfully a bracket not a column. also what kind of maintenence should i be doing on steering? thanks for any help.
