Steering box adjustment

Don't ask how, but the adjuster nut on top of my steering box got way outta whack. How do I get it in the right position?

Tighten it down until it you feel it bottom out then back it off about a half turn. That will be close and if it seems too loose when you drive it, you can tighten it a bit more.

Do not be tempted to tighten it too much. Err on the side of 'not tighter.'

How did it get out of whack? someone accidentally mess with it?

the steering box needs to be centered BEFORE any adjustment is made.
adjusting a steering box that is not centered will cause problems.
