squeeling noise!!!
hey all, i havent been on in a very long time due to new marriage and work... and all that crazy stuff!
anyways, i have a problem... on my way home from work today, on a two lane highway, i got behind a very slow truck for a distance of a few miles. he was going 30 mph. being pretty hot outside, i had the a/c on, trying to cool off form a days work. When i got the slightest bit of a chance to pass, i took it. as i stepped into the accelerator, the 4.0 gave a mild chirp. i thought it was the belt slipping, that what it sounded like anyways. i never step on the gas hard when the a/c is on, just a pet peeve. when i got back into town, i turned the a/c off, and rolled the windows down. curious about the noise, i stepped in it again, accept this time i was at a complete stop. this time the squeel continued until i let commpletely off the throttle. any guesses? i checked the belt, it seemed to be fine, not loose either. My engine compartment is very clean, a virgin to mud. so no uneccessary wear and tear. please help. I have a warrenty too, but i want to go in with an idea... thanks, bryant

If it's not the torque, your idler pulley may be at blame.

not a crackd belt, ive inspected it thourghly. When i get a solid kick down, and it jumps to about 3500 rpm, it does it.
I just took my buddy for a ride, and i couldnt duplicate the noise at all. Thinking back now, ive come to the conclusion that the squeel only happens when the fan clutch is on. When i was on my way home it was running, and when it did it again, i had the jeep standing still with the a/c on for the wife for about five minutes, when i left the house, it did it again. again, the fan clutch was running. its parked for the night, if it continues, ive got warrenty, it only has 29,000 miles on it!

Could be the armor all! Take the belt off and you'll know real quickly if its a pulley.

Hard to diagnose over the net. A squealing belt sounds different from a bearing to me. Glad it cleared up for ya.
