squeek/squeel from front
So I have a squeek or squeel (take your pick) coming from the front passenger side sometimes. When it happens it is a continuous noise, but for some reason if I tap my brakes it goes away. Today I jacked up that end, I could turn the wheel and hear a bit of a squeek, but couldnt repeat it later. Brakes are fine, plenty of padding left so that rules them out. Basically its random.
It cant be life threatening or anything but it's a bit annoying. Any ideas?

Check and see if you have little peices of meatal rivited on the pad, these are to tell you the pads a getting close, they touch the rotor just enough to make an annoying noise, usually when you just touch the brake while driveing the noise quits.
Or you have a hard spot in one of the pads, you can take them off and sand them, but for the cost of brake pads, just put a new set on, check the slides make sure they move easy, the caliper is suppose to float on these slides, they are inside rubber boots, and slide back and forth, just make sure they move easy. good luck ![]() |

thanks for the reply, ive added another 100 miles since posting this and the noise still happens
I dont believe it is my brakes but I will check 4x4xplor for a guide and take a look at them with the calipers off. There are still grooves in my brakes so I really dont think it is them. As for the front u joint, I dont think the noise comes from that area but thanks for the suggestion, I will definitely check it when I jack my jeep up.

Mine did that for a short time and it quit. I figured it was from some mud or something that got up there and it burned off.

Mine is doing the exact same thing. I drove 15 miles today and when I got to the next town and slowed down to where I could hear it wasnt it doing it. Done some shopping and when I came out it was doing it again,
My mechanic said it sounded like a u joint so Im gonna have him check it. |

Its more than likely your brake pads, or the squeelers, alerting you, the sings are classic, you just touch the pedal with your toe and it go's away, get some pads check the rotors, if they are cut up bad get some replacement rotors, the cost to cut the rotors runs from 10 to 20 dollars, you can buy new rotors for 22 dollars, at advance auto, or 19 at pep boys. but you have to ask for the cheaper rotors, or they will sell you more expensive rotors.
the only difference is the warranty, same rotor different box, and you pay for the replacement up front. ![]() |
