Passenger-seat mechanism? Mine does that like once a year until I spray the mechanism with a lube. Before I finally figured out the squeak's source, I couldn't tell where it was coming from and for a while, I thought it was in the suspension.

This may be a long shot...

Check the seat belt retractor. I had a squeak at low speeds, too. Thought is was the suspension but it was real inconsistent. Finally realized the squeak occurred when I was leaning forward in my seat, causing the retractor to spin and let seat belt out.

Search for Axle seal

And 'angry sparrows' on the TJ Forum.

Mine is still squeaky but I haven't had a chance to bring it in yet.

I did see a post a few weeks ago about this.

Let us know what you find 'cause I'm next!

Thanks,

Jim

It took a while for me to figure that one out too but that squeaking is actually the sealtbelt being drawn over the plastic retractor cover belt slot, much like a violin bow being drawn over a string. I'm taking a Dremmel tool to the seatbelt opening and enlarging that side of it slightly when I can get around to it.

Then I'd bet a healthy amount of $$ that it is the CV joint on the front driveshaft. Do a search in the various Jeep forums under "angry sparrows" and you'll find a lot of info on that problem.

Jerry's right.. likely your ball socket kit in the front driveshaft.. When mine is going, it squeaks at speeds over 10mph and under about 40mph. It is a rotating squeak. Its often referred to as angry sparrows.. If you go to www.stu-offroad.com there is a really good writeup on rebuilding the front driveshaft.. You could try to drop your front driveshaft and see if the squeak goes away.

HTH,
