Spun a rod bearing....

Well last night I was coming home from work and I noticed this knocking noise when I pulled into the driveway. I shut it off and came on here and searched for a bit and thought it was lifter tick. So today I went and bought 10-40w oil and a new filter and put that in, and it quited it down, for a bit. I drove to work and coming home it got louder and louder. I called a friend (mechanic) and he came over and listened to it and it's definatly rod knock. We pulled the plug wires one at a time and #2 is the culprit. $53 for new bearings (I ordered standard and +.010") and tomorrow we are going to tear into it at his shop and find out what is wrong. I hope that I can just fix this the easy way, as I'm broke (as usual) and have no money for a replacement engine.
By the way, the engine has 153,xxx miles, and has good oil pressure (above 60psi), and today when I drained the oil there was no shavings in the oil (weird). Has anyone ever had this problem on their 2.5L??

I bought a 99 TJ with the 2.5 and the #3 piston had exited out the side of the block @ 88k miles. Rod and pin where still attached to the crank though and it ran :-)

Replacing the bearing on a rod that already spun one is a bit risky IMHO but I too would try it if on a budget.
