springtime= re-gear time - suggestions?

I would like to *finally * regear the jeep after running 33" tires and 3.73 gears. Mathematically I think 4.56 's should would nicely and give me back some MPG's. Since I'm at it I thought why not some lockers - so I'm thinking Eaton e-lockers (I'm kinda set on the selectable)

1. Where would you purchase gears and lockers ? (good deal?)

2. Im here in Lansing MI any suggestions on where I could get a good quality install, ie someone who is will to get the specs exact?

dunno any places in MI, but for gears and lockers you should check out Northridge4x4.com Dave is an awesome guy and will help you out with anything you need. I have bought all my major components from him. I hate to recommend going over to pirate4x4.com, but they have tons of vendors on there always posting new deals and such.

4:56 will be good with 33s. I went with 4:88s on 33s until I could save and get the 35s and it really sucked with 33s. Just too much low end power.

Good luck with everything!

Northridge4x4 is a great place to buy from but you have to make sure the shop you plan on using will install your parts. I have yet to find a place around here that will warranty the work unless you buy the parts from them.

Reider Racing in Taylor, MI.

They are great guys to work with, they are local, and their prices are great.

I bought my E-locker from then and I highly recommend them.

With a 5 speed, 4.56's are perfect for 33's. Not sure about getting some "MPG's back" as I get around 14 MPG with that set-up.

With the 4spd Auto you are better off going with 4.88's. Don't buy the gears and lockers and take them to a shop for install. Find a good shop like the one Wheelin98TJ recommended and have them order the gears and locker you want, that way if something doesn't work right they can't blame you for getting the wrong parts.
Back to the 4.88's, with the .69od in your 4spd auto you will be able to use you od and your rpm will just be a little bit higher than your stock setup.
I'm running 5.13's and 35's, I think that is the perfect setup and I'm running 2500rpm at 70mph.
Good Luck

^ I agree with maddogfx.

I missed that you have the 4 speed auto.

4.88 would be my choice.

Yep the 4-speed auto needs slightly lower gearing, 4.88 is the way to go. Don't buy your own gears and then give them to the installer to install, even if you think it will save you a few bucks. Instead, have the installer provide everything. That way if/when something goes wrong, the installer will have to warranty everything, not just his labor. Otherwise you could be left in the middle holding the bag with the installer blaming the gears and the gear dealer blaming the installer. Yes it happens.

Jerry brings up a good point about the possibility of finger pointing if something goes wrong.

Reider Racing does installations. Last I checked, they wanted $250 to regear an axle that is out of the vehicle.

Don't even think about 4.56 with the 4-speed auto and 33's. Do yourself a favor and go 4.88's. You'll save wear on your finger hitting the OD off button on the street.

I grew up in the metro detroit area which I know is a little bit of a hike for you but you should see the guys at DTS (Drive Train Systems), I belive they're in Roseville or Warren, I know they are near 696 on Groesbeck, they have a top notch, quality operation there. Its not a hole-in-the-wall, corner gas station type place, its real nice facility, the prices are right in line with market pricing for a gear job, and they warranty there work. I had a buddy gethis gear in his mustang done there years ago, things went well. They're the most reputable shop in SE Michigan. Check em' out.

Their name is actually Drivetrain Specialists.

I agree - they are a good shop too. I've dealt with them once and they were great.
