Spring retainer clip? NOT wanting to go back on after lift?!

hey guys so i installed my lift and i can figure out how/why to get my driver's side spring retainer clip...in the lift's (RE 4.5) instructions it says to put it back on, so i should try to put it back on.....will there be any problems if i can't? could i flex out that much, with the bumpstops and everything installed, and have my spring pop out?

-John

Lots of folks don't have the clip in place.....I wouldn't worry that much about it.

But I have to ask....why can't you put the clip back on? What's stopping it?

you might have to turn the spring to get it seated properly.
When I had coils up front I could and did out flex the coil and lost one on a trail. It didn't fall out completely. Just enough to get turned sideways between the bumpstop and the inner c.

You don't NEED the clip but chances are that with that kit you are gonna flex out enough to unseat the spring. I know my springs become unseated without a clip installed. I went to the dealer and go clips for both front springs.

well maybe the spring isn't turned correctly, but i thougth there was a groove it sat in (sorta) but the retainer seems too short to put in over the spring, like spring is narrower than the stock one on the base, but its way way more beefy.

rotate the spring clockwise untill it stops. the groove drops in the bucket. The clip will seem like it's up in the air a little. but the bolt is suposed to pull it down and pinch the spring.

If you'll wander though this album, toward the 60 somethings. you'll see what losing a coil spring can do for you. In case you miss it... It's the red LJ.

Yes, absolutely. My TJ's coil spring retainer clip has held in three different brands of aftermarket coil springs and it fit all of them fine.

will it just "look" like it may not work until i go to actually tighten it down....just holding it up there next to the hole and coil, it looks like it may not work, but i just need to actually tighten down to see for sure.

I just installed a new factory spring clip on my front driver side Rubicon Express 3.5" coil yesterday (last one snapped on the trail). Fits like a glove.
