speedo & tripometer/mileage not working after new clutch install, help please!

Hey guys, me and my father-inlaw (mostly him, very little me) just finished a putting a new clutch set in my 98 tj. now the speedo and tripometer/mileage doesn't work and the check engine light is on. i am assuming this is because of the speed sensor that is bolted to the back of the tranny. we unbolted it, remounted it a couple of times. it never really seems like there is a definite place for it to be mounted, no slot or sure feeling of gears messing inside the tranny. also we double checked for loose and unconnected wires, but there was none.
please guys if you can, help me out! thanks

I had the same issue after my SYE install. You need to turn the sensor until the appropiate numbers are pointing in the right direction. I wish I could explain it better then that. Let me see if I can find the link that helped me.
