Either you removed the speedo gear housing and didn't rotate it to the right position after reinstalling it, or you broke one of the wires in the cable leading to the speedo gear housing. My bet is you don't have the housing index mark rotated far enough to engage the speedo gear with the pinion gear.

If its like the cherokee I had the clamp is similar to a distributor clamp and if you look closely at it there will be divits in the body where the clamp was. If pulled out you will see the gear is off set so as mentioned it has to be rotated to the correct spot.

sorry i should have mentioned how i fixed it. the speed sensor just needed to be rotated toward the notch toward the bottom of the transfer case , to match the correct size of gear (which was 36, stock i assume). works perfectly now! thanks again!
