Spare Tire Carrier

Anyone have experience using the stock spare tire carrier on the tailgate to haul a 33" tire. Seems to be differing views on this. Will the tailgate hold up? Whatchyall think?

33" tire won't fit unless you deflate it. I am running a 32" BFG Mud and it clears the rear bumper by about 1/8".

I had a 33" 12.5 on mine and it held but the door is a little warped you will have to move your tail light up or just take it off

I have a 33x12.5 on the stock carrier but I had to let a lot of air out for it to fit. Not a big deal as I have onboard air. Quadratec and others sell an extension that bolts to the original carrier to clear a 33 and it also raises the 3rd brake light (which I removed).

I've got a 33 on my stock carrier. I extended the bumpstops with hockey pucks and run the wheel backwards. The spare sucks up tight to the tailgate with no movement. I'm hoping it will last until the funds for the aftermarket carrier suddenly appear.

For my spare I run 33x10.5 its fairly light 6 lbs. over 30 in. tire. The bumper issue will be your concern unless you have a 1in bl. or maybe an after market bumper. BFG also makes 33x9.5 at. and mt. also: even lighter. Width dosent matter for a spare just diameter.

Next week I'm putting on a 1" BL and 33's (along with 2.5" susp. lift). I was hoping that the spare would rest/sit on the bumper to relieve some of the stress on the tailgate hinges, I'll let y'all know if it's a go or no go.

Those extenders put a lot more leverage on the tailgate, tweakage on the tailgate, especially offroad.

My 32" with a 1"BL clears the bumper by a whole inch, so I don't see a 33 resting on the bumper too well. Besides, if it rests on the bumper it'll be hell closing the tailgate! Then again the actual diameter of individual brands varies. Good luck!

I have mine on the stock carrier with an aftermarket extender for the last six years, it does not seem to be hurting or bending the hinges or tailgate.
