solenoid throttle hook up
I was wondering what you all thought about an electrical selinoid hooked up to my throttle? So I could hit a button or a switch of some sort to bring my rpm's up and sustain at a certian point. Basically using for winch and OBA but also would like it to be used as the "third foot" as well. Or do you think I should not bother and just set myself up with the ussual bike cable method attached to the gear shiftter witch would have a locking ablitty. I am sort of undecieded as to what I want and thought I would like to hear others opinions. I can see disadvantages and advantages to both set ups. Any input or comments are welcome. Thanks

Yep, just use a bicycle shifter and cable, it works well and it'll be a LOT easier to make it work like you want it to. www.rubiconexpress.com/ sells a kit to do this.

yeah the bike shifter works but if you could do it with a press of a button more power to you that would be cool and unique

Thanks for your responses. I should have elaberated a little about my brain storm. A slow night at work caused me to think of this way to be unique in my so called hand throttle. Which is used for many different applications in the industry today. It is basically a little electric motor with an arm hooked up to the throttle. A little computer chip hooked to the motor and a switch or turn knob style button on dash. The knob turned to a cerntain point would tell the motor how far to push the throttle down and hold it there. When not turned on it would free wheel without binding to the existing throttle cable or foot peddal. You all are probably right! A bike cable from the local bike shop would be easy, quick and vertually fail safe. Take me like 15mins to install. But then I will have the same old hook up that everyone else has. At least I know there is a reason for everyone to have one right? Because it works! Thanks for helping me realize that sometimes basics are porbably the best way to go.

I had that same idea except I was going to fab a bracket for a door lock solenoid, then just flip a switch and it pushes the throttle linkage to the desired position. Hardest part would be adjusting the solenoid so the max extension is at 1500 rpm, but if cut slots in the bracket to slide it forward or backwards it would be easier. Like you, a slow day at work, and thinking of the coolness factor.

I did just what your thinking.
I used the fast idle controller from a old 6..9-7.3 Ford (Int.) diesel (pre-power stroke)
I also used the same bracket that mounts it to the injector pump although it had to be bent and twisted on order to use existing bolt holes. These are extremely durable little solenoids with an adjustable "tip" that can be used to fine tune Rpm in a wide range.
My plan is to activate it when the power is switched on from my yet to be built in-dash winch control.
I know one pic is worth a thousand words, if interested I can post pics later as it's 4 AM and the house is still sleeping, as so the neighbors.

I would like to see some pics of your setup, should be able to get one from the local pic-a-part.
Thanks for your input

what about using a hi torque servo from a RC car/airplane? I'd think that would work very nice.

Be very careful with the wife mod. Uninstallation can be extremely expensive. Wife mods have been known to take the Jeep and all other mods during the uninstall process. Also, make sure you service your wife mod properly as often as humanly possible. Wife mods not properly serviced may malfunction or uninstall themselves at any time.
