Soft Top Restoration

I hope this is in the right forum. There is a paint and body section but nothing for soft tops! What are some good cleaning products for the soft top so it doesn't get a faded look. I have red clay that won't come out. Also, what is a good product for getting scratches out of the soft windows? My rear window is almost to the point where I can't see out of it. Thanks! BTW I have an 04 which, I think, is a different material than the earlier TJs.

I would order replacement windows. Red clay, I would think a good cleaner and a brush should remove it.

Haven't tried it yet as mine don't need it but I did see on one of the car shows a couple weeks ago that Flitz (A metal polish) was used with a very low speed very smooth buffing wheel took out the scratches and made the window like new. Again, I haven't tried it.

If you try it, let us know how it goes. (You can be the Guinea pig )

Never use Flitz (or any other polish or wax type product) on the fabric of the soft top. It will get in and clog the texture and be a royal pain to remove while looking like crap.

JP magazine just recently did a comparison of soft top cleaners and they liked the Bestop cleaner and one other one which was virtually identical (but that I can't remember the name of). They said these were the only cleaners to get the baked-in mud out.

Both of their preferred cleaners are recommended by Haartz, the company that makes the soft top material.

I think I saw the Flitz cloth idea on Trucks (Spike TV). It worked good. Has anyone used the Mopar soft top cleaner?

I think Okie362 was talking about using flitz on the windows.. not the fabric itself... I would like to know if this works as well since my side windows are crap

Yes. Definitely on the windows and not the fabric. In fact when they did it they masked off the fabric so as not to accidently get the compund on the fabric.

Nice catch
