soft top removal

okay guys, i really REALLY wanna take the top off of the jeep. im getting annoyed by the stupid flapping noise caused by extra material catching the wind. anyways, ive got those stupid plastic end caps, and it seems like no matter how hard you pry or yank on them bad boys, they will not come off. is my only solution to break the plastic ends and get those expensive aluminum end pieces? is there a special technique??

If your are talking abuot the piece that hold the soft to to the roll bar then just use a flat head screw driver and a friend. pry it just a little and should come right out.

But the flapping noise masks the other noises you'll hear!

Try this

Hear is a great way to avoid breaking those plastic thingys and having to buy the aluminum ones or prying and hammering them to death. Take the two screws out of the black metal mount that they are attached to the role bar with, try that, much easier.

He's talking about these thingamabobs. These are replacements, the original are dinky plastic that is easily broken.

RMeak is right, take the bars out and leave the doo-dads in.

No what I am talking about is the mounting plate that is hidden by your roll bar padding. Unzip the padding and there is the bracket that your soft top bows are attached too, it is attached to the roll bar with two screws on each side. I took mine totally off this way once befor and had it back on in just a few minutes. But I also kept that section of padding off permanently.

I have no problems with mine. I just give them each one good tug and they pop off.
