I went and bought some nice snap ring pliers with 3 change-able heads but they didnt open wide enough so they were basically useless. Most of the rings on there were I believe "lock rings" not "snap rings" anyway. The kind without the two little holes, but with the diagonal edge. I would look into getting a set of lock ring pliers instead. I ended up having to drill two little holes to let snap ring pliers work, than borrowing some that opened wide enough.

I had no use for snap ring pliers doing the SYE on my '99. The only snap ring with holes I saw was holding in the bearing on the rear cap. You don't need to remove that. Could be different on your '06, but i doubt it. You only need lock ring pliers. Sears for $11. Works great.

The key thing to keep in mind is that for a SYE installation, it needs to be able to open far wider than a standard, even a "heavy-duty", snap ring plier does. None of my local stores carried anything that opened widely enough so I ended up buying mine on one of the tool trucks stopped at an automotive dealership. I think it was a Matco tool truck but it could have been a Snap-On, Mac, etc. tool truck.
