Smoking Clutch I think!!!

Ok maybe it's just that I don't know how to drive…

.BUT……
I was using the jeep….to pull a small tree out of the ground in the back yard today….

I was using L4…Well when I was pulling, I started to smoke in the engine area…it smelled like I was burning the clutch…im actually pretty sure of that…so…is it normal to smoke the clutch pulling like that, or even when your wheeling….would the clutch smoke..I would think trying to get over rocks you would burn the clutch a lil at least...How bad is it...and do most ppl upgrade their clutch for wheeling?

I've smoked my clutch several times yet the OE clutch was still in pretty good condition when I replaced it as a precaution against failure at 166,000 miles. If you ever need to replace it, there's no need to upgrade it as the OE clutch is beefy as it is. The Luk (makers of the OE clutch) OE replacment clutch kit is all you need, when you need it.

I guess it would mostly depend on how big the tree was and what gears you have. If you had the 3.05's with 33's you would be way under geared so your clutch would def. smoke.

I wouldn't use a Jeep to pull out trees.....no more than I would use a tractor to go rock crawling.

As for wheeling, I never smoked the clutch in the 7 years I ran one in my TJ....and it saw plenty of rocks here in Arizona. A properly set up vehicle isn't going to cause a clutch to smoke, IMO.

And I am crazy enough to try to get a tractor to rock crawl.

If you smoked the clutch, it doesn't sound as though it came out all that easy. If it came out easy and you still smoked the clutch.....then you have another problem.
