smoking clutch code?
I had a friend help me pull the jeep out of a hole today, yes my fault, long story short got the clutch hot and set a code. I'll get a code scan tomorrow but would a hot clutch set a code or did I probalbly screw something else up?

Will post when i find out. It's not setting a code after I let it sit for a couple of hours. The clutch got hot enough to smoke and stink. I couldn't tell what was going on since I was driving my truck (1500 HD 4x4) while friend was in the jeep. We had to use a long strap and 2 chains to reach and still have traction (a wet low spot before the rise and deep hole) The best I can figure is he had it in 4th instead of reverse was trying to help???
The clutch seems to be doing fine. Did the 4th gear 20 mph 2500 rpm thing and RPM imediately fell. Doesn't seem to be slipping. The main thing I notice is the oder; how long might that stick around? Last edited by ymin214; 08-21-2006 at 07:59 AM.. |

The scanner turned up a cam position sensor code. Must have got wet. I bought new fluids and looks like I will be servicing both diffs, man. trans and tcase tonight. I planned on doing this soon anyway since I just got it with 70k.
The clutch seems to have survived. Scared the crap out of me. |

Ask Jerry about a long life with the clutch after smoking it.
