How many miles on your YJ?

You shouldn't technically be posting on the TJ forum.

The synchro is internal in the transmission.

It is either your:
synchronizer gear in the transmission
shifter boot or floor plate preventing from full engagement into 2nd gear
Or you need to change your tranny oil, (may help)
