The Skids Project...

What we are doing with this thread:
We are, with your help, tracking down and listing links to all the armor skids that help us protect our Jeeps. This will help anyone shopping for one, letting them compare all types to see what is best for them.

What we are listing:
  • Manufacturer links only, there may be many places you can buy them and prices for a particular skid can vary widely. We have, for now, decided not to go into price, it varies and changes too much.
  • We will work to include major notes, compatible years, conflicts or other requirements (like BL). Always check for yourself, no guarantees for accuracy!
What we are not listing:
  • Bumpers, there is just too many of them and there is other posts that go in to them a lot!
  • Reseller websites. We do not feel like giving preference to any shop selling parts, there are so many. Shop around and a great place to start is with the Venders that list on this forum and many of those offer discounts to us so check them out!
If you are are a Supporting Member of JeepForum.com you can put product requests up and have Vendors contact you.
Many of these products are either made by venders that actively support JeepForums or sold by resellers that do.
  • Reviews. Lets keep this thread to facts. I encourage everyone to post tons of reviews in the Review Section it is another great resource that can always use more contributors!
What you can do to help:
If you know of any brands that we have missed, post in this thread and they will be added to the main list.
Vendors and Manufactures are really encouraged to helps out. Please include:
  • Brand
  • Types of skids they make
  • Link to manufacturer (no resellers)
  • And important notes, but please no reviews (but let us know if you have a review in that section)
  • **No pictures please, that is also for the review section**
Notes about the list:
  • This has been a collaborative effort and I really want to thank everyone that has and is helping out.
  • Most useable info is compiled in the first page posts, all information posted in replies will be integrated where it is useful and updated when necessary. If you post something for me and I forget to add it after a few weeks, PM me, somethings get lost in the shuffle.

Looking for referance pictures, read details

Looking for a good picture or drawing of a straight on shot of the underneath of a jeep showing all the spots that have covers for them. My preference is that it would be all stock and have areas outlined or highlighted so that folks can understand what we are aiming to protect.
Anyone got anything like this? we may need a few showing big year changes or other differences.
PM me

Skid Plates : Changes, Needs, Concerns and Notes From Various TJ Years

does anyone want to help with this post's info? PM me

Lets see if we can agree here when the TJ Stock Skids changes happen, so folks will know what they still need. I know gas tank skids got better, shovel got a bit worse and Rubicons may have different things that other models. Input on this matter will be compiled in this post

I'm not knocking your idea....

Just a thought, but I think the "Reviews" section of the forum covers
a lot of this pretty well with the ability to add to it. If people would look
more there before asking the repeated questions about which company's
products, what site, best prices, etc it would save a lot of trouble.

Skid Row

I run the following:

Manufacturer's Website

Brand/type: Skid Row Engine Skid
Requirements: 6cyl. Engine
Compatible years: '03-'06
Price: $250ish
Review: Good, strong skid. It ties into the factory t-case skid with bolts, but I've also seen a clamp-type fastener. It can withstand really hard shots without deforming, but it can be bent. I've bent mine, but I beat on it really hard.

Brand/type: Skid Row Steering Box Skid
Requirements: None
Compatible years: '97-'06
Price: $50ish
Review: I've barely hit it, but it's rather thick and sturdily mounted. Covers the steering box quite well, so it radically minimizes vulnerability. Easy, quick installation.

Brand/type: Skid Row Radiator Guard
Requirements: None
Compatible years: '97-'06
Price: $60
Review: I've never hit it, but it's definately worth the piece of mind. Easy, quick installation.

no offense taken, yeah i know there is a review section, but like i have done with the thread i link to in my Sig below. i think there is a real need for a single post complied list. this will be somewhere that hopefully you get to find link to all makers so that you have the first part of being a informed person there for you, reading reviews is a great step too, but if a brand never gets reviewed then you don't even know it is out there. Watch how this turns out, you may understand it differently. this will be a facts list, no opinions.

Nth Degree Tummy Tucker combined with Skid Row engine/tranny skid is my personal favorite combo. However, I've also heard good things about Jeep Medic stuff and would like to learn more about them.

jaredjulin, great to hear! glad i could explain and offer something useful

rjt36, great info, great details thanks, lets not do the pictures though they do belong in the review section way more and make the thread more convoluted than it needs. As this grows it is designed so that folks will only have to read the first few posts that compile the info, that is where it gets so much of it's usefulness.
thanks for helping regardless.
