Single rear seat? Can you do it?

Hey guys I'm wondering if any of you have cut up or put an after market seat in the back of your TJ. I really would like to get some more cargo room back there. But I need room for atleast 1 in the back. I've seen a mods where this guy cuts your seats for you and one comes out while one can stay in. and they still fold down. I'm just gonna leave the thread open and not narrow it down because i want to get anything you guys have. Thanks!

I would just buy a mastercraft seat or something similar and make a bracket for it. Just remember that it will need to sit way lower than the fronts.

I bought a fold and tumble split rear seat from JCWhitney. It's a bit smaller then the stock seat but I can still have one kid in the back with the other folded up for storage room and the seat belts don't have to modified.

There is no issue. The belts are still at their original attachment point so they are still usable without modification.

That link to that seat is probably your best bet. Just buy one of those. Each side will fold forward, and fold up independently.

Someone needs to make one of those for the 03 and later models.

This is from the Rubicon Owners Forum. Not mine.

OK here it is. This was a pretty easy thing to do. I picked up and old YJ seat (that WILL get a black seat cover) without a frame. I bolted some angle iron, expanded metal welded to it and some tin to keep the foam from getting cut by the metal.

Then I made the mounts that bolt to the factory seat mounts. I used 1/4 plate with a 1/4 riser to get over the tub contours and 1" square stock

Then i bolted the mounts to the seat.

Here is the final product. I will paint it all in the Spring. Factory seatbelts are great. Same leg room as the bench.

If you can't find what you want MAKE IT!!!

It almost looks like two YJ seats could fit on there. That'd be cool if there were a way to take them out easily one at a time.

Wen (Ahoywen on this forum) has a single bucket in his Sahara for his son. It looks good.

I think I have his email at home. I'll try and send him an email and get him to post here if you want. He can probably tell you how he did it.
