Should I change OPDA?

Have an '05 Rubi with 84k, I thought I better check the OPDA and it has been pulled or replaced because there are timing marks in yellow paint pencil on it. The gear shows wear but spins easily with no slop, etc. The cam gears sure shows some wear also but I don't really know what's excessive? I assume once the cam gear has wear, it's just gonna keep wearing out the OPDA gear(s). I went ahead and ordered a Crown unit. Should I go ahead and replace it or wait for more signs of wear, etc. I know there is tons of info about this but wanted a similar member's opinion.

Thanks!

I just got a 05 with 40,000 miles and the first thing I did is order the crown unit, I'm not taking any chances.

Did you change it yet? How did your cam shaft gear look?

Replace it with the crown unit irregardless of wear. It is really easy to remove the old and reinstall the new OPDA, did mine in 1/2hr taking my time. If you have wear on your cam gear, then your OPDA is already defective. The OPDA gear is the sacrificial gear so the cam gear should have minimal to no wear on it if it's working properly. My cam gear looks fine but my OEM OPDA gear had excessive wear at only 54k.

Swap it. If u need a cam later, u can change the gear on the Opdg at the same time.
mine lasted just over 100k. i got a factory one, with the stripperguy mod.
