shield on rear t-case yoke.

i replaced my balancer with a yoke. The balancer had this shield but the yoke did not. Is this shield needed?

My 85 Toyota T-case yokes had that same type of shield on them. The diffs also had them. I don't think is necessary to have the shield on the yoke , the shield does help keep the grit/ mud out of the seals. I was thinking about replacing my balancer/flange with a yoke. Do you have an auto trans? Who makes that yoke? Let us know how it works out for you.

No that shield is not needed . The typical lip seal does 2 jobs ~ it keeps dirt out of the cavity it's trying to seal and , it keeps lubrication in . That shield is nice if it's there but absolutely not a necessity . In some instances it could hold dirt and abrasives against the lip seal , not allowing them to escape and therefore contributing to seal failure in a more rapid manner

I have a 241 with manual. the yoke came from Tom Woods with my DS. Its all in there and done, its just been bothering me since it seems like the seal is exposed.
