shaking at 55mph?
My wrangler has been shaking at around 55mph for the last 6 years at least. Since it has started I've had new tires, new rims, balance, alignment, new shocks, and new lift. It only shakes or wobbles around 55mph. All other speeds are fine. Sometimes its worse then other times. Not sure what else to check or change. Any help would be great. Thanks

Have you used the same place to balance them for the past 6 years?

No, different places have done the balance. I've had 3 sets of tires all from different places with all the same results.

then that should tell you its not the tires/wheels, could be you need a SYE, MML, CV driveshaft with your lift

I am assuming the shaking is all the time (ie even when the tires were brand new), and in that case this does not affect you. I had the shaking problem with my first set of tires because I neglected rotating them regularly. With regular rotations, my second set has not developed any shaking or wobble at all.

I had same symptoms and for $65 I finally replaced warped rotors and now I am shake free.

Mine used to have death wobble at 47-55. Put on a new steering stabilizer, did a backyard alignment, and now it only has some shake in the front end (nothing real bad) at 49-52 MPH. How's your steering stabilizer?

The 2 most common causes of what you are describing are:
-Loose track bar or worn out track bar bushings -Tires out of balance, faulty tires, out-of-round wheels, or faulty wheels First thing I would do is a visual check of the front end while someone is turning the steering wheel back and forth. Do it with the Jeep off so there is no power assist and do it with the tires on the ground. Watch both ends of the track bar for any movement. If there is slop, you'll see it. Also watch all the other steering related parts for any slop - tie rod ends, pitman arm coming out of the steering box, u-joints in the steering shaft, etc. It should be safe to assume your wheels and tires are not your problem, but its still a possibility. Some of the smaller mom and pop shops use balancers that do not cut it when it comes to bigger tires. A road force balance is the sure way to tell if a tire/wheel combo is perfectly balanced. Have you checked the wheel bearings yet? How many miles are on your Jeep? Are there certain situations where the wobble is more likely? For example, when hitting a bump? When turning the wheel slightly for a gradual turn? This isn't something that occurs with braking, is it?

Sorry I havent replied, havent had time to get online in a while. I had the problem before my lift so it has nothing to do with the lift. I had different rims and tires on and made no difference. So its not the rims or tires. Could be the brake rotors. My Dad had my Jeep for about a year and put new rotors on my jeep and I cant remember it doing that before he had it but I could be wrong. I'll check that somehow. Anyone know how to check to see without taking them off? Also have to check the track bar and bushings and steering stablizer and bearings. There are around 70000 miles on my jeep. No it doesnt happen when braking. Happens when going straight or turning. Sometimes it seems to get worse after hitting a bump. Something loose, maybe? I guess I have alot of checking to do. THanks for all the replies. Hopefully I can find something.

Check to see if your tire pressure is even between all 4 tires on the ground. I had horrific shakes at 50 mph engaged in gear or in neutral when braking. evening the tire pressure helped a lot. I have some squeaking from the left front wheel so I think my wheel bearings might need to be replaced... waiting to install the steering stab I got with my lift on a free afternoon too, that might help a little.
