The drivers seat foam in my '02 needs to be replaced, the covers are still in good shape though. Has anyone here ever done this before, it does not seem that it would be very difficult? Also, anywhere online that I could get the replacement foam? I've searched everywhere and all I come up with are seat covers and full seat replacements. thanks
I've not done this myself, but here's an idea. I've purchased foam to line electronics cases from local shops (look in the yellow pages under foam or furniture) in several towns. In each case the foam shop primarily dealt in foam for furniture and had several densities available. It was also VERY inexpensive. I would recommend an electric knife (think Thanksgiving turkey) for cutting and shaping the bulk foam blocks.

I just bought the foam and the fabric cover for the bottom half of my driver's seat. You may want to sit down before reading how much it costs......it was $400 and change.
While I find that price ridiculous, I'm still happy with the purchase. The interior on my '99 was like new, with the exception of that part of the driver's seat. The foam was worn flat, and there were several burn holes in the fabric and the vinyl on the side was split wide open.
I was very close to spending over a grand for Corbeau A4 seats with the heaters, adapters, and the matching rear seat cover, but I was still concerned with the access to the back seat. My kids ride back there a lot, so that's important to me. If I didn't use the back seat, I would have just gone with aftermarket seats.
I was expecting the pattern on the new seat part to be brighter than the rest of my interior after 10 years of fading, but to my surprise it matches perfectly. All in all, I'm happy with the purchase, and my seat feels like new.
I'm still going to add a heated seat kit in the next few months.
^ i woulda just found a new seat at the wreaking yard or CL.... i mean $400?
You think I didn't look?
Every one I looked at was as bad, if not worse than mine. Jeepsrus told me they had a matching base for me that was in "great condition", which I think they wanted $200 for. When I asked them to e-mail me a picture of it, it was worse than the one I wanted to replace.
As I said, the price is crazy but I'm still happy with it. Your mileage may vary.
Driver's seat foam on my 93 ZJ LTD was done for. After searching in vain, I went to the basement and found an almost new single bed 5" thick memory foam mattress. Removed the original foam (PITA!!!) from the frame and carved an exact match with an electric carving knife. Reinstalled the leather cover and is now better than new.
