They look great. As soon as I bash one of my OE tailights on a trail ( and I know I will) I'll order a set. I know the street ones will be out by the time that happens.

Personal opinion:
Your products are great. Your designer does a killer job. But your marketing guy needs to stop making promises that are untrue of shipped products. And if it's your beancounter making these changes... better start talking to the beancounter.

You describe features here on JF, you need to deliver on those promises.

So... guess thse taillights will be direct plug into factory harness, and blink at correct factory speed on stock flashers, right?
You're right! I was only repeating what I'm told. Come to find a self etching primer is good chemical treatment and when we tried Alodine we still had to paint. It was a lot easier to recommend a good primer.

Sorry for the confusion! I'm guilty of everything! We are producing and testing as faster as we can and somethings just don't work out. I try and let everyone know ASAP.

Thanks for setting me straight.

Gerald

I like 'em! It looks like I'll a 'Savvy Arsed' Jeep with these and the tank skid

They are only expensive if you can't or choose not to buy them because you don't want to spend the money. Until some of you guys can comprehend what goes into designing and developing a good product in a limited market, please, keep your disparaging comments to yourself and quit yer whining.

I have a 3 hp cnc mill in my garage along with several cad/cam software packages. I could easily copy this design and make my own. It simply isn't worth my time and effort when the product has already been executed well. It would be a losing proposition.

I really like what Savvy is and can't wait for my skid to arrive today.

From Rob's thread- Posted by me-

This is part of our PM conversation where we discussed your issues with the skid you received-

I'm assuming when treated there would be some surface texture evidence, and the shipped product did not indicate it had been treated.
My answer to you-

blaine
A couple of things come to mind- First, I apologize if you were mislead. Again, Chemfilm is not necessary in all parts of the US. We are still working on a way to get a kit in the hands of the customer than needs it so it can be applied before the skid is installed. The issue at this point is repackaging the bulk containers in a safe manner so that it can be shipped.

Secondly, Chemfilm is not a great stand-alone surface treatment for Aluminum. It's a good base for subsequent priming and for maximum protection, should be top coated with paint or similar. It's also not cost effective enough to do all the skids before they are shipped.

As far as keeping promises goes, we have one promise- We want you to be perfectly satisfied with how we take care of you and the quality of our products. If you will let us know what it will take to make you happy, we'll get that taken care of in the best and fastest way possible.

The comments are fair and I don't mind them. If I can't defend our stance on stuff and the thought processses behind it, then it's not a product worth defending and shouldn't be built. I also perfectly realize that this hobby/lifestyle is part and parcel of the DIY mentality. In my case, when I got my first Jeep in May of 99, it was 50/50 to have something my wife and I could do together as a couple and the other half was for me to have an outlet for my incessant tinkering. I still enjoy both fully to this day.

Side work I have... Aside from working full time as the technician for a University Geoscience Dept I'm also partners in Turbochargingdynamics.com, I'm the sole producer of electron guns for Cameca Instrument's Scanning Electron Micro Probess and I'm currently producing bronze trail markers for a few trails in the Grand Canyon... I'm free after lunch

I still need to deal with the two forward mounting studs for the tank skid that I had to cut off. I may just make my own weld in inserts. Unfortunately New England has developed a monsoon season and the Jeep is outside. I will let you know how the skid works out.

Question for Blaine/Gerald: Why not use black anodized aluminum for the cases to give it a more OEM look? Cost? I deal with aluminum daily and if you're using sheet or coil stock, it's readily available.

Not at all a complaint, just a question.

These are milled out of 6061 bar stock. I guess you/we could anodize them after the process. We are getting a feel for them and peoples wants and desires.

^^hmm I like that idea. A double anodizing coating like Spidertrax uses would be sweet, I don't know what spec they use, but I know their anodizing is bomb proof. Some dark tinted, semi clear, MIL-A-8625F Type III is 2 mils thick and would last quite a long time too.

Gerald & Blaine - here's the MIL-A-8625F spec sheet - and

Thanks! That anodized finish on the Spidertrak spacer is tough. That would be the way to go, if we did do something like that.
