alot of deck fasteners are #4 phillips, so you can get them at lowes or home depot. I just bought one the other day for my deck project. Damn honey-do lists.

This afternoon, I updated the original post to include the "corrections" provided in the thread discussion and to update the final to "After" pics to more accurately depict the vendors products as they are now displayed on my rig vs. what was installed at the time of the writeup.

Subscribed. I have been thinking about ordering these for my new TJ project as I destroyed the tub corners on my 97 TJ.

The tranny is still stock. That is way easier to explain than all the mods.

Installed a while ago, but decided to paint. Thought worthy of a new post.

I know it's been a while, but about how long did the install take from start to finish?

btw, I have the same Metal Cloak fenders on the LJ I will be installing the corner guards on. I like the look of the painted corners a lot. I plan to paint my corner armor like my Jeep, which is a similar green.

God Bless Texas

The corners use 5/16-18 wide flange HD nutserts in the narrowest grip range for sheet metal.

Blaine what tool do you use to install them in your shop. Do you have one of the big pump style pneumatic guns?

I use an old NGC lever handle. I've set 1000's of nutserts with it and it's still going strong. I did buy a used set of another brand to keep from swapping mandrels though. Not sure on it yet, but it is the bigger Marson tool.

I bought an inexpensive Nutsert/RivNut setting Tool from Amazon a while back after doing quite a few of these by hand on my Jeep for Savvy (and other things)... Nowhere near as nice as the one Blaine has (which he let me use once, supervised, and with threat of bodily harm if I somehow damaged it ) but for like $70 for the limited # of Nutserts I still need to set it was easier than using a more "manual" process. But I set 10's/dozens of Nutserts, and Blaine sets 1000's, so it probably wasn't really necessary to have a tool, but I'm pretty lazy so there is that.

Don't remember the brand/name but could probably go find somewhere.

I used this Marson tool:

I drilled the holes undersize and used a centering bushing to do so and then reamed to size prior to nutsert installation with a flute type reamer:

I did not mind purchasing the Marson tool which seems to be of good quality as I can use it in my work. One thing, using either the Marson tool or the home made pullers the nutserts tend to set often slightly to one side or the other, not dead center. It was not a problem for my Savvy armor and all my screws went in and lined up well. However, I think if I do this again, I will make a cone shaped collar or something, not sure yet, to help keep the nutsert centered as it sets.

Holes drilled and everything prepped for the armor to go on:

I deburred the holes including the backside and primed and the nutserts where installed with Loctite 271.
