?s on Unlimited and North East.

I am looking to purchase an 05 Unlimited and have a few quick questions.

I have seen a difference in the rear soft top windows of the Unlimiteds. Some have a canvas strip passing diagonally through the rear side windows, and some are just a solid rectangular window. Here is the one with a strip through it.

I am guessing the difference is the sunrider top? If I am correct which has that feature?

Second:
The one I am currently looking at is from the North East (CT). Assuming it was kept outside and driven daily (worst case scenario). What should I be expecting in the way of rust/corrosion with it being an 2005? I figure the Exhaust will be rusted but I don't want to run in trouble when I start wrenching on this thing.

Shouldn't be anything more than surface oxidation on anything... Mine's a 2004, and was a daily driver upstate New York, and it's about as clean as can be. Most of the "rust" I found wiped off with a garage rag. Even the exhaust is clean...

First Question is the difference between the 04 and 05-06 models. O4 having a solid window. This is just from what I have noticed no hard evidence...

Edit: I have noticed the strip also has the cross bar for the top behind it, better for when the windows start to flapping on the canvas instead of the window it self...

As far as I know, all the Unlimiteds were Sunrider soft tops. I recall reading somewhere that the strip along the window was added as a design change somewhere during the production run (05 model year I think). I purchased my OEM top about a month ago for my 05 LJ and it has the strip to protect it from flapping on the bows. Whenever I see one without the strip, I've always assumed it was an 04.

All Unlimited have Sunriders...the strip was introduced mid-2005. Apparently, mine was among the first to have this strip because I had one replaced under warranty (seam was unraveling) and the shipped replacement had no strip and they had to custom order it rather than from the build sheet.

It shouldn't be that bad after only a few winters up here. It's the aftermarket stuff that rusts away pretty fast. Most of the stock components should be in pretty good shape.

My '04 has seen four salty Westsylvania winters; worst rust is a little on the trailer hitch.
They don't rust like they used to. Thank heavens.
