Rusty 44

I was checking out a saraha the other day (thinking about trading) and I checked the rear end out to see what it had, and I found the D44 , but it looked like it had some rust on it, kinda like it has been painted with rust, and that was peeling off. Know what I mean?

Is that something that could just be knocked off with a wire wheel/brush and repainted with rustoliem, or should it be a show stopper? I checked the rest of the frame and undercarrage, but I did not see any other rust spots (other than the regular exaust spots like the cat and such)

It's a 99 or 00 saraha, 5 spd, I6, with about 50K. What do you think?

you can wire brush it and repaint it. From Factory the paint on most axle are not done very well.

I am not from the rust belt but I would think it would take a awefull lot of rust to make a Dana44 not worth anything. I would say you could brush it... nuetralize it, and paint it pretty easy.

I just bought a 98 with rust on the axels and frame, just enough to make the paint peal. I wouldn't worry about the axels, what you should look at is the brake lines, and body mounts, that it where the trouble will be. My brake lines are rusted and i will be replacing them, the body mounts look good, but some of the brackets on the axels will need to be replaced down the line. Pull the carpet and look at the floor boards also, if there is no rust coming thru form the under carriage I say go for it.
