Rust on frame

I was looking under my jeep, 98 wrangler, to see where a body lift would be installed and I noticed some rust on the frame. I'm not sure what the technical name for the pieces are, but its where the body sets on the frame. Not all are rusted but these are and I wanted to know what my options are for fixing it and what would happen if I did nothing at all. And would this cause a body lift to be a pain?

Thanks in advanced!

That looks more like BODY rust than FRAME rust. It's above the body mounts.

Probably a good chance that when you go to loosen the body bolts you'll pull 'em right out, break out all that rust, etc.

Good luck.

OK thanks for clearing that up. I'll have to research how to fix that, I worry that the new spacers, if that what the black rubber things are, will just go into the body.

Body Rust at Body Mount

I went home and did a little poking around with a screwdriver and found that there are two that look bad. I have some pictures of them below.

As I understand it, my TJ has 11 body mounts. So should I worry that only 2 are in bad shape? Also what can I do to prevent the other 9 from rusting out also? I would love to fix this myself, even if it means cutting and welding. It would give me a good excuse to buy a mig!

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but how did you go about fixing this issue? I've got the same problem, on only 2 mounts (1 right under each front seat/door).

I'm in exactly the same boat. Just the ones under the doors. All the rest look good. My plan was to either cut it out myself and weld in new metal on the body or bring it to a shop to do the same. Recommendations welcome.

Rust will have to be cut out and new metal with a nut for the body mount welded in.

YtownTJ did a great job fixing that same problem. Also Classic Enterprises makes those sections, but they're pricey. I have to do the repair as well. Just gonna bend up some 1/8" and weld a nut to it and weld it in like YtownTJ did.
