Anyone know the size of the Smittybuilt hinge pin? And is it just surface welded or does the pin run through the bumper and is welded top and bottom?

Bummer. Don't most other manufacturers through weld them?

Seems like a lot of weight riding on one weld.

I think all the new Smittybilt stuff is coming textured black. I just got some rocker guards and they are textured black also.

Chris_ or anyone else whos got the SRC tire carrier,

Do you know if you got part number S/B76621 or S/B76622? All specs are EXACTLY the same at 4wheelparts.com but S/B76622 is $30 cheaper. I'll call them if I can, but its hard to get on the phone around here (Iraq). Don't see why there are two identical items with different prices...

EDIT: my SRC rock rails are textured black as well. And the powdercoat seems to chip away rather easily at the corners, whether you hit anything or not. Still great quality rockers though.

EDIT #2: the 21 is for TJ, the 22 is for JK....of course the cheaper one isn't for me :P

I installed mine today. I love it so far. I have it all adjusted and no rattles of any kind. I went to Auto Zone and wired a $2.99 red light for my 3rd brake mounted with a self tapper and water proofed with silicon

I paid $350.00 shipped from 4WheelParts.com

does that tire carrier rest against the factory rubber stops on the tail gate? I only ask because I trimmed mine to fit my spare on the factory tire carrier and need to get some if that's the case...

oh BTW...Thanks for the great pics, you answered a lot of questions for me.

They give you an extra one with the bumper hardware so you should be ok.
No trimming at all on mine, it rested on the stock lower stop perfect
I'll get ya another pic's in a few.

Lower stock stop, no trim at all. It rests on the carrier perfect.

The two higher stops are useless as you can see but I left them there.

Hinge with grease fitting.

Is anyone dissatisfied with this bumper/carrier? Including any minor inconveniences you might overlook because it was only $300?

I'm really considering ordering this bumper tomorrow, but if I might have any regrets with it I'd much rather pay more for something else.

Also, is the bottom of the receiver flush with the bumper? It looks like it hangs down a little.

Thanks!

I received mine and installed over the weekend. No complaints, really. It does come with a small frame tie-in for each side that goes over the frame rail, and requires you to bend the body pinch weld a bit. Since I don't have a BL, and I already have a set of beefy frame tie-ins, I decided not to use the ones that came with the bumper/carrier.

Also, the grease fitting that came on mine was broke, so I had to extract some of the threaded part.

the only things to really consider with deals this cheap (one was already said) 1.) the Hinge is most likely only rated at a few hundred pounds, compared to the 2,000lbs that others are made with. that would lower building price by $15 or so. also, the thickness of the steel. with steel prices skyrocketing the way they are, the thicker steel jacks the other bumpers way up. it's all defined by what you wheel or plan to wheel. It seems the rugged ridge would be fine for trail riding. anything more treacherous than that, though and I wouldn't exactly trust it.

also keep in mind there are no shackle mounts or d-rings, whichever you call em. this might not be an issue, but how do you get towed from behind?

lastly, it was also mentioned that there are no frame tie-ins, this is one of the most important factors to a stout bumper, front or rear. (EDIT: i guess it comes with some tie-ins, but they require some fab)

bottom line, rugged ridge has always seemed like the mall crawler version of rock crawling gear. no offense meant by that statement. my thing is, they always make gear that looks like the offroad competitor, but never functions like it. So, if you want the looks, go for it. if you want the function, talk to someone like Bzerk here at the forums, he can hook you up for a tad over that price with killer gear that will last a lifetime.

actually, mine came with a set of frame-tie ins that bolt to one of the 2 holes in the frame on each side, and runs over the frame rails and out to the top of the bumper. They're not as beefy looking as some of the other frame tie-ins out there, and they only utilize one of the 2 frame holes available...

That's really what I was worried about, especially since it's said to only be welded in one spot.

It sounds like this is actually 1/4" steel, does anyone know if the entire bumper is built this heavily, or if it's just parts?

I have my stock tow hook, will I have to remove that to install this bumper? And I thought receiver mounted shackles were suitable for recovery?

That's what's holding me back. I think I'd rather support a fellow jeeper and get exactly what I want. He says he's backed up at least a few weeks right now, but I'm patient.

Then again, this is very close to what I think I want, and if it is 1/4" steel throughout, it'd be hard to get that much raw material for very much less than $270. I think I like the latching system on it too.

At least I have all day to think about it.

Thanks again!
