on the jeep a few months, the others cars 210k miles!I like saving money on fuel, espesally when i go to the pump and get price fixing by all the oil companies.Which used to be illegal in this country but now its how EVERYTHING is sold.Another good tip for mileage is air up your tires to near max,run them this way unless you need lower air for traction. Then you can just let a few lbs out as you need.Another thing i use is Lucas fuel system treatment, you won't find a better product for fuel mileage and engine life.It THE ONLY product i've ever bought for mileage, better running etc that ACTUALLY WORKS!I don't work for Lucas so don't think i'm pushing their fuel Treatment,I'm just that sold on it.You do the air mod and run Lucas Fuel Treatment<NOT THE OIL TREATMENT>YOU WILL GAIN MININUM 3MPG.If you don't yer a dam LAIR!

I've been doing this so many years now to my cars i know before i start 3 is easy,5 is very possible.I know some will say BS,but my wifes 99 Pontiac Trans AM with 5.7 Ls1 is getting average 29! using the hot air mod and lucas. And we live in the hills of PA so its not all flat driving.

Of course you use more gas, you aren't moving??????

I guess since I don't drive a rocket it wouldn't be rocket science. People like you ruin a lot of good tech sites. The long version is since I survey powerlines for a living I spend a LOT of time behind the wheel. Quite a bit of that is spent idling. MY 6.0 Chevy 4x4 gets about the mileage you'd expect from a small block. Sitting and idling all day doesn't effect the MPG as much as a 15 minute warmup in the morning on my Jeep. I guess I could have just ripped the original thread starter for posting about gas mileage because we all know how helpfull that is.

I will give this a try. It looks interesting.
I love the absolute low tech, non-Buck Rogers approach of it all.

Ty,if you look close at the pictures i use a rubber strip in frt of the radiator to seal the hood to the body so cold air doesn't invade straight in from the front. If setup right you will notice imediatly a big differeance in how the jeep responds to throttle.Too much heat and it will be lazy and may ping a little.get it right and it will respond well to throttle but be much smoother with a gas gauge that doesn't drop like the new years eve ball in times square.

Waaa waaa. My jeep doesn't get good mileage because Daimler Chrysler is out to get me.

My jeep is not aerodynamic, in any sense. It's fun and eye catching instead. Part of why I bought it.

My jeep is not built to conserve weight and materials. It is built to be stronger than most vehicles on the road. Part of why I bought it.

My jeep is not built with a suspension and powertrain just strong enought to outlive the warranty, like many vehicles. It has a heavy suspension and powertrain built for durability in substandard conditions. Part of why I bought it.

Drive softly, and decide whether you are a jeep person. You may be happier with a japanese car. You have to be at peace with the overall balance of pros and cons of the vehicle you drive. As long as there are kids, there will be aftermarket placebos for sale that don't do anything. Try to resist, but if you can't, there's always ebay.

Why is it that a Jeep milage post pops up or is re-uped every week? Does anybody go into buying a Jeep thinking about gas milage.

Sell it and move on with your life.

If you REALLY want to increase your gas mileage, get a 26 tooth speedo gear.

Because it's a Jeep. If you wanted something with 30mpg you should have bought a Honda. Most people aren't asking for a 3mpg gain, but rather something to take it from 13 to 20. If you want great gas mileage, use the smallest stock tires and pull all the weight you can out of it. Then drive like your grandma. Tell us how that works. The problem is most people are throwing 33's and bigger on their Jeeps then whining every other day about how gas mileage sucks. Go figure.

Preheat the air, and use injector cleaner, presto 10-15% mileage increase...sorry, Rivi, color me skeptical.
All these years we've been trying to COOL the intake charge...

When considering a Jeep's gas mileage, we persist in comparing it to a four cylinder ricer or somesuch. Over the time I've had two XJs and the TJ, my bride has had entirely ordinary four door sedans. There has not been a big difference between our vehicles mileage-wise; my first Cherokee actually did better than her six-cylinder Ford. Currently, the Jeep and the VeeDub do about the same in shorter running, but the Wunderpanzer does much better at high speed, due mostly to low aero drag. Ask me about the bellypan mit NACA ducts I have to remove to change the oil.
So yah know, I do mileage for every tankful, of every vehicle.
For the record, the Volks has about the same weight, the same horsepower and torque (tho' at TOTALLY different spots in engine speed), and it drives thru all four wheels, all the time.
If we really want mileage out of Jeeps, we're going to have to abandon the barn shape.
