remove all unneccesary weight, get skinnier tires and shift every time the upshift indicator comes on.

Come go for a ride and I'll be glad to demonstrate the difference between what you perceive incorrectly as "control" and what control actually is.

Pick a different reason because that one is both lame and stupid to perpetuate.

Were you not aware of the fuel mileage before you bought it? Did you read that sticker on the window?

I notice if I let my Jeep idle excessively it eats gas even more. It has made as much as 2 to 3 mpg difference. I drive nearly the exact route every week and get about 15.8 mpg, but if I let my LJ idle or warm up excessively, it drops to around 12-13 mpg.

Go figure. You sit and idle and it uses more gas. Wow rocket science at it's finest.

Of course you use more gas, you aren't moving??????

I heard you can improve fuel mileage if you sacrifice a potato by cutting it in half under a pale moon. Bury the first half at the entrance to your favorite off-road trail and placing the other half under your driver's seat. You get like 30mpg then... it really works!

Due to the fact that the GP has athe areodynamics of a cinder block, you can forget about trying to squeeze out mpg's. The money you spend to do it will take too long to re-coop before positive $ amount flow is acheieved.

We all know that internal combustion engines can do better, but are they going to let it happen....?

I wish I got close to mpg on the sticker. My powerstroke 350 gets better with the jeep on a trailer behind it than the jeep empty. My crew cab 350 with a 460 and 195,000 gets more mpg's than my 06 rubi unlimited, and both 350s are 4x4. Good luck.

87 Octane

well my friend, unless you swap your gas motor for a diesel engine then ur mileage will not improve any with any aftermarket gadgets, witchcraft, or special tricks suggested by our fellow Jeepers.....the gearing in our respective Rigs is part culprit for poor gas mileage.....and don’t forget that the Jeep was not designed with aerodynamics in mind.....good thing the owner's manual does not recommend 91 octane for the engine, so best advice is to buy cheap 87 octane in the cheapest station and every now and then add either a bottle of octane booster or fuel injection cleaner with a full tank of gas.....maintenance is important as well......if the components are all happy then ur Rig will run happy and you will be happy!

x2 on the Cheap Gas! I started out buying the Super Unleaded (real men don't read directions), but my MPG went up after switching to the lower grade and I have not noticed any difference in power.
