Rubicon front axle on a x model. What do I need?

I am helping my dad put a rubicon front axle on his jeep, he wants to make the stock locker work. He purhcased a new ring & pinion(4.88) for it, and all he needs is the stuff to make the locker engage. Is there an after market kit to make it work? He thought about sticking an after market locker in, but he likes the functionality of the selectable lockers.

If it is a TJ, see if you can source a stock Rubi locker pump, otherwise you'll need a compressor and a regulator to match the approx. 5psi that the lockers require.

Additional stuff:

- shortened front driveshaft (Rubi D44 pinion is about 2" longer than the D30)
- new pinion yoke to accept the 1310 U-joint on your stock driveshaft OR a new driveshaft yoke to accept the 1330 U-joint for the Rubi pinion, either will work, but the 1330 is a little stronger.

Other than that it's a straight bolt in.

You can also use a combination 1310/1330 ujoint.

True, I hadn't thought of that.

'02 TJ, 3.5" RE lift, super 35 kit, detroit locker rear, 4:88 gears, about to install a rubicon t-case, and a rubicon front axle.

Not to Flame you or your pops, but I wouldn't go through the hassle of installing a rubi front axle into my tj. A lot of the parts on the axle are the same as the D30 and not much stronger. I have been advised against this before, twice. Just my two cents

While some parts may be the same the axles and differential are in turn stronger than the D30.

Good luck with the Rubicon t-case installation, I have read several times that it's not an easy conversion.

Assuming he has a D35 in the rear then that would be a better first upgrade than doing the front.

I think he has a Super 35 Kit in the rear. A 44 would only really strengthen his tubes right?

D44s have the same axle tubes. The housing is still slightly stronger though because of the larger center section.

The D44 ring gear (8.5") is also stronger than the D35 ring gear (7.6").

The D44 pinion gear is comparable in strength to a D35 pinion gear.

Super 35 axle shafts are stronger than stock D44 axle shafts.
