Rolled TJ???

Has anyone ever rolled a TJ? I mean flipped it all the way over the roof?

I am doing a trail this weekend that is notorious for roll overs – especially short wheel base vehicles.
I am thinking that the stock safety belt will not hold you in your seat and you will get a knock on the head.
Any one that have rolled over, survived and is coherent to answer this please tell me.

Not in a TJ, but in a CJ. We were driving down the road at 45 and made a slight turn, the CJ rolled over sliding and sparking on the road. I was knocked out cold while the driver was punching me in my arm. The only injury was to me, scraped knuckels. It was...fun? (since im not dead and all)

Baas,

Back in '85 I was driving a Toyota pick up truck when I was broadsided by a Ford Pinto. The truck flipped twice, buckling the cab down between the driver and passenger side. Seat belts saved our lives. I bought a CJ7 after that and felt safer! This last summer we had a jeeper in Colorado that rolled off Black Bear Pass, it was a long way down and seat belts were not an issue. Back in my kayaking days we had a rule of thumb for tackling tough water, we would scout the rapid on foot first and if you couldn't work up enough saliva to spit because it was too scary then you didn't do it. Go slow and keep your arms and legs inside. Post some pictures too!

saw a yj roll all the way so all 4 tires were in the air. wasnt pretty the driver had some pretty serious adreneline going. wasnt somthing i would try to do or try to come close to. also if you do roll it's quite a recovery process and isnt as simple as firing it back up. good luck

When a jeep rolls, assuming its not but a few feet, ie; not down a mountain or anything, does the rollbar usually holdup, or does it bend and total the jeep??

I was at the badlands and a guy I was with rolled his TJ with a regular seatbelt. Flipped a few times, landed on his cage. The cage was a through-the-dash-bolt-to-the-floor variety. Cage survived, as did he. He was shaken up, but no worse for the wear.

Here are the pics, there is one of the middle of the roll.

Bill's Roll

They start at the bottom of that first page and go into most of the second for the aftermath.

my last jeep was a 93 yj i had the good luck of rolling on a jeep jamboree you know the safe 4wheeling. i rolled a onto my totally stock roll cage, all it did was crush the windsheild and bend the spreader bars the factory cage was totally fine after an hour of fender work i was able to drive it back to the trailer, but just to be safe on my new TJ i have a full weld in cage

Here is a scary video of a TJ rolling (a few times) in MOAB...most of you have already seen this, but if you haven't, definitely check it out.

She doesn't have the stock roll bar and bumpers (all Toys By Troy) and not sure what kind of seatbelt...

go check out the toys by troy website....he has got some footage of a lady rolling backwards down a pretty serious rock climb....it will give you an idea of how a jeep will hold up with a few enhancements....

Here are a few pics from a cj rollover I saw last weekend. Check out the guys leg sticking out in the first pic and the roll cage in the next two. Yikes! He was ok though.

I remember seeing a video of a Jeep rolling over like 18 times and landing upright in a tree, and then the cut the branches, dropped the jeep down about six feet, and it actually started up.

I can't remember where I saw it though. Anybody know?

buy one of these, they sell them off of ebay, in the event of a roll over, all you have to do is hit your switch, and it will roll you back over again.....and the best part, its only 6.50!!!

Nice rockwells. I would be interested to see how the cage was constructed to allow that type of bending.

This was a steep climb and his brakes went out. In order not to go off the edge of this mountain he turned into the enbankment and flipped it. I know those axles weigh like 1000 lbs a piece.
