Roll Bar Speaker Pods????

Thanks for the look,
I'm looking to modify my Speaker pods (04 TJ) to fit in a pair of Polk db 650's.
The question is, how the H#ll does one get the pods off the roll bar, there appears to be these crazy cap things pushed over the studs coming off the bar??? Has anyone successfully gotten these off without major damage to the rest of there TJ ???? I'm not sure exactely how to proceed here.
