Rock Krawler Steering

What are your thoughts/opinions on the RK steering setup? This looks to be the strongest one I've seen yet. It's got a 1.5" solid stock tie rod, and 1.25" solid stock drag link. I'd post the picture, but don't know how, maybe someone could help with that. Thanks.

This is the one you are talking about I'm assuming?

Knuckle over tie rod is nice. Only thing I wouldn't like is that it looks to use stock tre's. There is a kit I found that uses 1 ton tre's for a little less. Its a little more work to install, but still nice. I'll try and find the link for it.

There's the picture, thanks. Are you running the kit you speak of?

No actually I have the currie. I had bent my tie rod and purchased the currie hd steering before I had heard of this other one. I still am very pleased with my currie steering, its held up great.

Actually it uses heim joints. Personally I feel TRE's would be an improvement.

Thanks for clearing that up. Its a small pic so it was hard to tell.

The other steering system I found was from JCR Offroad. It uses 1 ton tre's. Definitely beef. Just another option.

I have a rockkrawler tierod and drag link.
It uses heim joints.
I honestly cannot recommend this for the street. The bolts that hold it on constancly loosen and have to be re-torqued. The joint where the tie rod and drag link are bolted together loosens up as well. There is too much slop in this setup for my taste. One thing I will tell you is that it is BEEF. I have had the whole front end of the jeep resting in the tie rod without even deforming.

What is involved in installing the JCR 1-ton steering upgrade? What kind of clearance issues are there with the trackbar and swaybar mounts? How does the drag link tie in at the passenger side knuckle? Looks like a good setup just want some more info.

There should be no issues with the trackbar, from the pic it looks like it clears it. I dont think they would design it that you had to modify the trackbar. Definitely has no problems with the swaybar.

Hard to tell from the pic how it ties in at the pass. knuckle. You just have to drill and ream the knuckles and pitman arm for the 1 ton tre's to fit.

I contacted JCR and install seems pretty straightforward.

Quote from JCR Offroad: Installation is just a matter of getting the right size reamer, reaming the knuckles larger and bolting on the 1 ton steering. Needing a drop pitman arm depends on your set up. Most get away without one, but if
you already are using one, it can't hurt to leave in on. There are no
clearance issues when installing it under the knuckles(like stock) If
you install it over the knuckles, then you would have to move your sway
bar links. The drag link connects to a tapered hole in the passenger
side Tie rod end.

I may be going this route in the near future, price is right, not inflated like other setups out there. It would be next on my list of mods but got bumped down the line due to a cracked exhaust manifold, 91,000 miles out of stock and it finally cracked. That's Jeepin for ya!

I have the RK steering. Mine is the older style, not the one that is pictured. It does use heim joints. I did the under the knuckle setup. Mine has not loosened up but I will remember to do torque checks when I do maintenance on the Jeep. Here is a pic of mine.
