RHD Wrangler Sport 4L engine Problems

We have a RHD Wrangler Sport (Factory Right Hand Drive) with the 4L engine. We have 65000 mile on this 2003 jeep and its used on a rural route for mail delivery. There is 65000 miles and it's in the shop for at least the 5th time. New computer, new programming(several times), cam sensor, new fuel injectors, air mass sensor, crankshaft sensor, O2 sensor and others. At 30,000 miles the dealer pulled the head for burnt vavles claiming low compresson it didn't fit it. Now the dealer is claiming low compression and burnt valves again at 65000 miles. They didn't find any problem at 30000.

Engine runs rough, like a cylinder not firing. Rpm's surge when the brakes are applied at a box, coughs and sputters sometimes in the 55 to 60 mph range. engines dies sometimes when slowing down, leaving no power steering. Sometime on morning start up we have black smoke. No engine service light coming on when the engine is running rough, it has in the past. It has even been towed into the dealership.

Dealership has had the jeep for over a month and still has it. They don't know the answer and have been working with Chysler on the problems. I wonder if Chysler knows the answer? I searched the forum and a guy from Texas seemed to have a similar problems. It appears Chysler or the dealership never found his problems.

Sometimes it reminds me of a bad plug wire or spark plug!

Any Ideas?

Sounds like a lemon to me. Problem after problem that can only be solved by tearing it apart and building it again from scratch with tested parts. One problem causes another and fixing one problem doesn't solve the issue, the rest of the problems break that new part you just installed. It's an ongoing struggle. Get a new one.

I have a 2005...mine did the "RPM rev" thing at stops for the first month or two, but has since stopped. One of my co-workers bought an '05 and stalled at a stop light the second day she had it...defective air mass sensor...no further problems. Third co-worker got hers back in January...no major problems. Lemon? Possibly. But, you have to admit, NO passenger vehicle is built to withstand the stress and load that carriers put on them day after day. They should let us test new models to help work the bugs out!

Let me know if anything is ever resolved. I'm curious. Best I can do on mine is constant preventative maintenance...fix/change it before it needs it.

Good luck.

There is a simple test for burned valves, (something that rarely happens these days), it's called a compression test. It may seem old fashioned but it's definitive, especially since you said it didn't fix it the previous tiime. Ask if it was done and what the readings are.
