I noticed my exhaust is loose where the pipe connects to the exhaust manifold. Figure I might as well replace the 2 donut gaskets while i'm messing with it. Are there any special tools needed to do this or tips to make for a easy job? thanks.

Once these come loose they will be loosening every 1000 to 5K miles.
Get a set of stage 8 locking bolts or some other bolt/nut combination that will not loosen until you need it.

The napa store shows it having them,it would need something in there to create a seal I'd think.

You have a tapered exhaust flange fitting, no gasket.
From the FSM:
4. Exhaust pipe leaking at manifold
flange.
4. Tighten/replace flange attaching nuts/bolts.
No gasket...

At least you don't have the more crackable pre 2000 setup...

They showed the same for my 98 4 cylinder and insisted I buy one when getting a new exhaust manifold/gasket. I had them take the manifold out of the box and look at the collector with the tapered flange, at which point the guy tried to fit the donut on saying it was tapered to make it easier to slip on the gasket. I just watched and smiled until he was ready to admit I was right. You can't trust what you hear from the guys working the counter at the parts store.

Useless fact: The tapered connection is called a "buick Ball". Buick first used that way of sealing an exhaust back in the 40's.
When we bought our Muffler pipe bender my boss sent me to a class for a whole week on working the bender. I think the Buick Ball is all I remember from the class.
