Removing third brake light/tire carrier

can someone walk me through what to do with the wire that runs to the third brake light if i want to remove it? I might install it back later so I don't want to just cut it and call it a day, is there a simple way to remove it?

I just recently did this to my '04. It will all come apart without any cutting. On the inside of your tailgate, remove the plastic cover which houses the 3rd brake wires and contacts. The boot at the end of each wire will pull off of of that metal contact, then the contacts themselves will slide right out of the bracket. Pop the rubber plug where the brake wires enter from the outside of the tailgate. Feed the wires and plug back through and out tailgate hole. Take off the four bolts holding the 3rd brake light assembly, and you're done. It can all be put back later if you change your mind. Ace Hardware sells little plastic plugs to fill the hole in the tailgate.
I didn't take the tire carrier off, but if memory serves, it was just a few bolts.

Open the tailgate, pop the black plastic cover where the contacts are and pop the wires off the connector plugs. Remove the harness w/the grommet that passes through the tailgate. Reinstall the plastic cover and go. If you want to put it on, reverse the steps.

Not to be a smartass, but in the time it took to make your post a screwdriver would have answered your question. Overall prolly takes less than 5 minutes.
