Removing stripped/rusted torx bolt, hood latch
Hey guys, i'm looking to mount my farm jack to my hood, and the torx bolt stripped, i stopped as soon as i noticed it. looks like i could get a hex tool in there and try that?? BTW, soaked the rusty bottom of the bolt with some PB in hopes to get it ready for removal.
Tips, tricks to get this tough-guy out? ![]()

use the right size torx next time, but for now cut a slit in it and use screwdriver

an alan head will only strip it more. youre going to need to replace that bolt. use a left handed drill bit slightly smaller than the stripped hole and it should come out with the constant torsional force applied by the bit. if not, dont go all the way through the bolt and try an easy-out. i had a hell of a time with mine when i put on my hood rack too. good thing it comes with new bolts.

Use a torch on the underside of the hood. a minute or so with the heat and they come right out.

the suggestion RnEmOver stated might work but that bolt is held in with loctite and its painted over so its pretty difficult to break it loose. for the next few that you have to remove you might want to go get an impact driver.
once the hood hinges are completely removed the brackets on the underside will want to fall out and its a PITA to put them back on if you dont have an extra pair of hands available. clean off the area around the brackets and use some strong tape like duct tape to hold them in place. also the hood will want to rest against the fenders at the back portion so put a good thick magazine on each side. heres the bracket on the underside, ![]() heres what you should do with the magazines. one on each side, ![]() doing the magazine trick keeps the gap close to where it should be making the reinstallation of the bolts in the hinges much easier.
