Removing the spare and third brake light

I want to remove my spare and everything else, what do I do with the Brake light cable? I searched the forums and I didn't find anything on this topic. Anybody have any tips/a writeup?

What exactly are trying to accomplish? Do you want a bare tailgate with no brake light? If so, why can't you just feed it back into the tailgate and cap the hole? If you want it to be accessible again, just attach it to the grommet you use to plug the whole with.

in the right rear behind the wheel there is a black cover. remove that cover and reach up inside and you will feel where the brake wires attach to the contacts. you can simply pull them loose there and tape them up. You can also remove the cover on the tailgate and cut them loose there if you don't need access to add another light. I used the tailgate contact set to power my tailgate lock actuator. I will be adding a 3rd brake light today on my new tire carrier.

that would work just be sure to insulate the wires first.

Yea I wish there was a write up on how to use the contacts as a locking mechanism for the tailgate.

If you are pretty experienced with wiring (security systems) I can walk you through it. Its real easy to me but ive got 9 years of doing it for a living.

Thanks Alex for the bump. I have no clue about wiring. However, I will be taking it to a shop that is experienced whom is doing the install. Per chance, if they ask, I will have to gather info for them.

this is what i did on my 98 TJ.

i unscrewed the black cover on the inside of the tailgate. i disconnected the two wires from the connector pins. i fed the wires into the tailgate and then pulled them out the outside of the tailgate. i didn't cut the wires in case i wanted to sell the third brake light or use the wiring for something else in the future.
