Received Rokman Gas Skid for Christmas - need to finish it

So I was going to just have the thing Rhino lined but I was wondering about the durability.

They have a new more durable formula and lifetime warranty. Or I could use the other methods, paint or powder coat.

If it were me I would rattle can it. Seems to me that would be easier to touch up after you bash the heck out of it. I duno. A powder coat would look nice. The Rhino liner would be unique and heavy duty.

It's not like rhino lining is impenatrable, it's gonna get scratched up, not to mention cost a lot. After a week you wont even notice it under there and then only that it may have saved you from getting stranded. Rattle can. Save the cash!

I called the local Rhino dealer and was quoted 30-50 bucks but he would like me to bring the piece down so he can get an idea of the size.

That doesn't seem to be much more expensive than buying primer and bed liner in a spray can.

I would probably need 2 cans of each, right?

I believe the cheapest rattle can at Walmart is around $1.97/can. If its bare metal, I would just paint it. Its gonna be getting pretty scratched up anyway, and for another $1.97, you can always crawl under and touch it up.

The bedliner in a can is about $7-8, you can spray it on bare metal after its been sanded a bit and you can get 3 decent coats per can out of it.
I've used it on bumpers, grill gaurds, fender flares. good stuff for a good price and you can easily touch it up.

I am still going to stop by and see what Rhino line will charge me but it looks like I will be painting.

I was just hoping to find something that will last a little longer than spray painting it.

I am pretty sure spray paint will scratch off if I even lightly brush against a rock and I will have to touch it up constantly.

I'm getting mine powder coated. Sure I'll scratch the bottom of it off and when I do, I'll rattle can it. The reason I'm powder coating is for rust protection (I hate rust) theres a lot of places you can't get to with a rattle can.....like inside. I'm thinking the tank will move a bit inside the skid rubbing the paint off.......and then.......rust

It's a Jeep gas tank skid. I presume the skid was purchased as there could be the possibility of scraping the skid. No sense in a fancy powder coat. My Kilby came powder coated and it looks bad after a couple hits. If you paint it you can also touch up easy and quick. Just buy a quart can of rustoleum flat black for $7.50 and a really good $2.00 paint brush. Thin the paint a little with mineral spirits so you don't see the brush marks so bad. Works well for a Jeep gas tank if it is a off-raod rig. If it's a mall cruiser sell the skid and get one of those diamond plate aluminum deals on there.

This is a good point. Of those who have replaced their gas tank skid how many think the gas tank will move around and wear the paint off the inside of the skid?
