So my jeep is in the shop getting a clutch put in, they recommend a rear track bar relocating bracket be installed while they have it up on rack. I do all my own work (except this clutch) They want $235 to install bracket and recenter axle. Is this something real involved to do? Is this a fair price? Clutch kit and labor is at $725, I'm ok with that, but bracket job seems high to me. Advise
Rear of vehicle jacked up to take pressure off track bar I presume? What about realignment, do it with wheels on the ground or off? Any help with tips appreciated.
You can get a quality adjustable rear track bar for less than $200. I recommend Metalcloak; I have their front adjustable. Check out their website. Instructions for installation are also posted there.
I have an adjustable rear on it already, just not the relocation bracket. Whoever fixed my typo in title thanks! So , just tape measure on center and go. Right?
Having witnessed several rear tb bracket/upper arm brackets rip off the axle this year, I will recommend against the relocation bracket. It puts so much leverage on that factory bracket that it eventually breaks the welds and shears off. I took the one off my wife's LJ. I know the geometry isn't as good as with a raised relocation bracket, but I'd rather not have that extra leverage. If you feel you must do that bracket, have them add gussets to the factory mount for reinforcement.
I'm not exactly sure how that attaches to the track bar or mount, but I'd bet transferring that load to three 5/16" stainless screws isn't going to brace up much of anything.
For $235 you can get a GREAT adjustable rear track bar. Its only two bolts...
Take out the old track bar... Install your new track bar with only the upper bolt. Tie up the other end and drive it back and forth a few feet and jump up and down on the rear bumper. That "should" center your rear axle. Then just unscrew your new adjustable track bar until you can get the the second bolt in and tighten up the locking nut.
If your bolts are not all rusted up the entire job wont take 15 min.
Be sure the new track bar is made for the amount of lift you have on your Jeep.
Concur with the getting adjustable track bar BUT if you have an SYE and have adjusted your pinion you may want to get a CV Bracket, the difference between a relocation and a trackbar bracket is the former realigns the trackbar attachment vertically (sheared off track bar mounts can be caused by the lack of this).
The latter just makes up for the lack of the extra length an adjustable gives you (note the straightness vs the angle in the above).

The Tricounty rear track bar brace actually works very well. I was towing a 4 runner down the highway and made a left turn, but the 4 runner stopped and jerked the back of my Jeep sideways. The force snapped my rear track bar extension bracket into two pieces, but the Tricounty brace saved my factory bracket from damage. I was very glad I had it.
I picked up bracket and did it myself . Have had intermittent death wobble issues. Front track bar is not adjustable, so that's probably next. Bushings in old one are not that old , but noticed some play even with replacement bushings. I'll just take it a step at a time.
Sure did. Used a vice grip on the T55 for about four or five turns until I couldn't even use that anymore. Maybe would have more droop if I would've disconnected the sway bar.
Can anyone tell me the height of the bolt hole for the trackbar is off the top of the axle tube for a stock TJ and for the ones with the CV trackbar bracket?
I am trying to design up a RHD specific rear trackbar bracket for my Jeep, and would like to make it a bit more like your LHD ones, so that I can make a longer trackbar. Then I would have less angle change as I cycle my suspension.
I have to change it when I get the SYE in, so might as well make it as good as I can.

The bracket is actually made by Currie, and it can be used with either style track bar bracket.
