Rear driveshaft won't line up

I removed my rear driveshaft to replace a u joint and centering yoke ball and now I'm trying to put it back in. Is there some sort of trick for this? I can't seem to get both lined back up. I have an SYE if that changes anything. Thanks

So that's in fine...





And that's like a half rotation off....

If you chock your wheels and put the transmission in neutral (or the transfer case), you can rotate the TC pinion to make it line up.

Or jack up a rear tire and rotate the rear pinion?

Sorry guys, brain fart. I still had it in 4wd so I couldn't rotate the transmission side.....

I have a quick question whilst we're on the subject of the rear driveshaft...I have a rear tom woods double cardan shaft with SSSYE and I noticed that you don't run a boot on your rear driveshaft....any reason for that?

There's two basic styles to TW shafts. One with a zerk fitting and no boot and the other with boot and no zerk

From the TW site:
"With the XB configuration, we will use a heavy rubber boot which is banded down with stainless steel banding to seal all of the contaminates out and keep the grease in. The XC configuration uses the same slip yoke & spline stub but instead of using the rubber boot, we drill and tap the slip yoke for a grease fitting and use a dust cap which has convolutions that follow the spline stub for sealing. We consider the XB configuration to be the longest lasting and best value."
