I was originaly going to keep the limited slip rear and put a locker up front. The Andy at Carolina Rock Shop said that the stock limited slip, the trac lock, sucks and so it would be better to use a new carrier/locker and regular gears. I was wondering If the trac lock is realy that bad. I mean, price wise and performance wise (street and trail) would it be better to keep the limited slip rear and lock the front (selectable) or put a locker in the back and leave the front open? Can the trac lock be re-built? Help me deside weather to change the carrier or not.

The trac-lock, even in perfect shape, is a marginal LSD at best.

I was in the same boat. I researched the trac lock, and yes it can be rebuilt. I decided to install a True-trac. Found one for sale here on the for sale section and the timing was right. So far I am pretty happy with it.
