it rains inside our Jeep
for about 2 months now the inside of our 99 TJ has been accumulating an insane amount of condensation on the inside of the hardtop, enough that it drips all over us while driving...i know what your thinking, you need to fix the seals on your hardtop....the thing is, this happens when it hasnt rained for weeks....we had a long dry spell, and everytime my wife or I get in, the windows are fogged and the roof is literally dripping water everywhere....its so bad that the floorboards are soaked and it ruined some stuff my wife had in there....im almost thinking that something is leaking and causing it to be so humid inside...when i first joined this forum i asked about water dripping from the dash when the defroster is running, what is the cause of this, and how do i fix it?? im not sure if its really causing this problem, cause my wife used the defrost setting for running the a/c all summer and there was never any condensation like this, i even made little holes in the floor plugs so they wouldnt retain water...... it started doing it after the weather got colder, or at least thats when we noticed it....im going to pull the top off this week and let it dry out, but its making me crazy cause ive never seen anything like it.....has anyone else experienced this??

Your heater core probably has a pin hole leak in it.
I had a similar problem with my 68 mustang. Do you smell antifreeze inside the Jeep?

Try this, next time before you park it for the night leave the door open for a minute or so to let it air out.

nope, no antifreeze, being a mechanic thats the first thing i checked...airing it out for a minute might help a little, but the amount of condensation would blow your mind....the ENTIRE inside of the roof is soaked and dripping like i sprayed it with a hose or something, and its plain water....so much that we thought it was from the rain we had awhile back, but after it persisted after the rain and humidity were both long gone we figured we have a problem....

Sounds like a bad heater core as mentioned above....It happened to me with another vehicle; soaking wet carpet and fogged up windows. I changed the heater core and it was corrected. Oh, make sure you pull up the carpets and let it dry-out underneath, so you avoid mold and mildew....

no rain, no ice, no snow, and no missing antifreeze (i can smell antifreeze a mile away, heck, i even know what it tastes like!!).. im telling you, this is a strange problem, and the only thing i can figure is the water that drips from the a/c is getting inside the cab somehow since the a/c comes on with the defroster....

under the hood there will be a hose protruding out the firewall on the passenger side(lower). the hose is about 1 1/2 inches long and is hiding directly behing your a/c accumulator I cleaned mine out once with a long pipe cleaner, but someone might be able to point you in a better direction as far as tools are concerned

Sounds like water is coming in your heater box/ductwork, I get stuck with these type problems all the time. Finding it is often difficult. Look for a fresh air intake around your cowl and then work your way down. I've never had to find this problem on a TJ but I install auto glass and see it on lots of cars. The condensation is present because there is a large amount of water being stored in you Jeep. The water coming out of your defrost is because that water is in that heater box somewhere. I bet that if you find the lowest point on your heater box and drill a small hole, water comes out, you can the patch the hole. If no water comes out, disregard my post.
You should be hearing it slosh when you take corners now and then. Good Luck, Tommy
