Raingler nets

I saw the posts about the Raingler nets and I'm very interested in purchasing "the system"...mainly to allow traveling with the dogs AND the top down.
One thing I am concerned about is headroom for the front passengers. I am 6'3" tall and when I set a broom handle across the stock roll bars (with pad), there is only about a half inch of clearance between the top of my head and the broom handle.

How tight are the overhead nets (do they sag?) and has anyone found them to impede on their headroom in the frontseats?

Thanks for your feedback!

Oh heck no--absolutely NO sag. You can get them extremely tight and they stay that way. I lay on top of mine all the time like a hammock and not only is it comfortable, but those metal straps keep it so tight I don't even have to adjust the net afterwards.

I'm only 5'11 so I don't have a problem with it hitting my head. I've got a good few inches of clearance though.

No flap at highway speeds either. I did have a problem with the excess on a strap slapping me in the face, but I quickly cured that.

Best money I've spent on my Jeep all spring (bought BFG 31 ATs for the summer ). You won't be disappointed in a Raingler net. They have many uses and you'll get many comments on them as well.

I ran the group discount about a month ago...

Chris at Rock-ItMan has the best prices on the net for Raingler stuff. VERY close to what the Group Discount was.

Youll love your Nets

No Sag On mine.. I am going to get a rear bar to make it so the people in the back seat have some head room...

I also use it as a hammock fits 2 people no problem up there

I got my full system for the very same reason...dogs and top down. These things are great. Im 6'2" and there is clearance, though I shave my head, so not too sure if hair would make a difference. The only thing I dont like about these things is the way the back net cuts into the headroom of the rear portion. I dont have my rear seat in, but I still wish there were something like a bar to add to the roll cage so you could then drape the nets outboard of it. Make any sense?

I got the Blue Full System with side's and it matches my Intense Blue Jeep pretty darn close. They even threw in a couple roll cage handles. They stay put and work great too.

I'm also 6'2", and with the 1" seat risers I fabbed up I was hitting the nets a lot. It was pretty annoying. I removed the seat risers and installed a TBT cage which ended up giving me plenty of clearance between my head and the nets.

The nets don't sag, but they also aren't even with the top of the factory bars. They're more like in the centerline from bar to bar to give you some idea of the room you'd be looking at. By installing the cage (with spreaders) mine now sit on top of the spreaders FWIW.

I love my raingler nets, there is absolutely no sag. They sit at the centerline of my bars (as stated above) I have to say that my head does scrape the nets a little (I am 5'10" but i sit straight up when i drive). I am eventually going to get a cage with spreaders to fix that problem... I still really love my nets. I use it to hold gear. I ususally run using the top as a full length bikini top so I can stow my windows between the nets and the top. HTH

Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good; that honor, courage, and virtue mean everything; that power and money mean nothing; that good always triumphs over evil, that true love never dies. Doesn't matter if it's true or not. You see, a man should believe in those things, because those are the things worth believing in.

6' here and my head brushes the raingler nets on occasion. As mentioned above, the nets attach at the mid-point of the sport cage so you will lose probably 1.5" headroom.

I sit on mine all the time. I've even slept up there on a camping trip before. I'm only 5'11" and I've got plenty of room above my head.

Here is an idea for more headroom back there (and in front as well) http://www.raingler.com/shop/productDetails.asp?productID=52
With the nets installed:

I have the rack and a half and love it. The headroom sucks in back for adults though...I had my dad and oldest sister back there once and in addition to their heads poking though, they spent the whole ride discussing back and forth what the net might possibly be good for. They wouldn't beleive a person or persons could actually sit up there. My sister thought it was to keep tree branches out....lol...and they do work for that, however, they tend to scrape every bug, worm and spider off those branches and into your ride lol. My poor family doesn't get the jeep thing.

Anyway, I digress....

I would love to get the side nets when I get some more dollars...for those that have them, do they block your blind spot much when you head-check?

Raingler Nets summary

Thanks to all of you who responded to my original question.
I bought the Raingler nets (full set) from Rock-it man - great price and fast delivery! Installed them and found that at 6'3" my head only occasionally brushed them. That combined with the slightly confining feeling caused me to try plan B. Which was to wrap the overhed nets around the center bar and overlapping them over the passenger compartment. This works great, looks fine (keeps the dogs contained and I still have the option of quickly moving them back over the front drivers compartment if I need to.

I also adjusted the overhead net "down" further so that there was more doggie headroom in the back...not sure if that would help with passengers as my back seat is in the "attic"

So now the dogs are setting high and sometimes dry on top of my extendatrunk and contained by the nets.
(By the way the extenda trunk is a great place to install a pair of 6x9 speakers in a 1997 Wrangler - out of the way, yet still close enough for great sound - I installed some MBQuart Marine speakers and they sound awesome.)

Now I need to find some trails and jeepin' buds in Northern California so the dogs and I can start seein some "backcountry"
