Rained on Now Clicking in Dash?

We had an unexpected flash flood (not top of course) yesteday and now my dash has this intermittent, fast clicking noise that is coming from the dash. Is almost sounds as if the hazard is stuck "on" but its not. It seems to be loudest right behind the steering wheel. Any ideas? Thanks.

Could be your CD player. Mine did that after it got soaked.

Take your steering column cover off and check the flasher to see if it is clicking. Pull it if tit is, something is shorted

I would let everything dry out for a little while before using the Jeep.

I am having problems with my jeep after it raining in it as well. The steering column lets water in quite easily so you may have had water go through the flasher hole and short something out. Take the cover off and dry everything off nice and good. You are lucky the clock spring didn't get wet, cause I am having all sorts of problems from that.

humm, well before the down pour yesterday i have been having problems with the factory cd/stereo volume. when you turn it down it goes up. you just have to keep turning it down and down until it goes up to what sounds like volume 10 then it finally turns down. that really wasnt a big deal and i could deal w/it but now this clicking noise is very annoying. i took the panel under the steering column off and it didnt look as if were wet at all. should i keep it off and just let it air dry?

when i put the turn signals on it stays lit for a few seconds before it actually "blinks." but eventually it will go back to staying constantly lit and not blinking. the noise however sounds like what you said provelogear, the hazards. and when you say "pull it off" what exactly does that mean? take the 2 covers off under the steering column and then what?

Once you give it time to dry out, it should be fine. Water from rain getting into the dash and steering wheel cause that symtom but it generally goes away before too long.

As stated above It should dry out and be fine on its own. I had the same issue and it also caused my blinkers to act up. lasted for about a week and then back to normal all by itself. Although mine was due to the fact of a day in the mud then stopping by the drive through carwash without the top on. Whoops. Come on we've all done it.

ok well, everything has dreid out since saturday. with an air compressor i blew out/tried to dry the "hazard" connectors and slots and it still is making that fast clicking noise. what are the chances that this is something major and will have to be repaired by a shop?

I remember back in spring of '97. I was at a baseball game and my Jeep got soaked. It was still very new, and I was very unhappy, especially when it started to do that clicking. I was pretty freaked out. It rained for the next two days, and my Jeep clicked the whole time. After about two days of drying out after it stopped raining it went away. Now, twelve years later, my Jeep has been soaked many times, and the clicking starts when it is wet, and goes away when it dries out.

stogie. thanks for sharing that. i needed that reassuring, lol. did you do anything special to hurry the drying process? the clicking obviously is the hazards in addition to something else as i think 3 days is plenty of time to dry. i guess illl just have to wait.

Same thing happened to me once. One of the relays got wet or something. After a few days, it dried out and went away.

Does it still click with the relay completly removed? Have you tired replacing the relay itself?

I did nothing to excellerate the dry time. You could pull the relay and clean everything with rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush or WD-40.
