Radiator or water pump?
My Wrangler is running a little hot, about 210, and when you open the cap there is little to no flow. I flushed the system and some pretty ugly stuff came out. The thing sat in my garage for about two years but I seem to remember it leaking and adding some stop leak to it, yeah, I know not a good idea.
Anyway, I'm thinking about just putting a new radiator in instead of getting the old one worked on, because of cost, a new one is what, about $150, and because it was leaking anyway. But first, I assume this couldn't be a water pump issue also? Don't they leak when they go bad? I've changed the thermostat, but there just isn't much flow. Thanks

210 is right where it should be running, that is what the engine is designed to run at. Make sure if you ever swap the thermostat that you stick with the factory specfied 195 degree model thermostat (some are a degree one way or the other but that's ok). Just avoid anything cooler like 180 or 165 degrees.

what do you mean when you open the cap there is little to no flow? .... do you mean the radiator cap??
when your jeep is warmed up that cap will be under pressure, taking it off will result in you getting burned pretty good. Now, if yours has no flow when engine is at 210, then either you're super low on coolant or i'm missing something in your post But in any case, 210 is where it should be ![]() |

Sorry, I posted that in a hurry, my bad.
The jeep has been overheating, there is cool air coming out the heater, and the radiator is full. I put in an OEM thermostat and it runs a little over the 210 mark for a while but will overheat. Before these problems the gauge would read a little under 210. There is very little/no flow in the radiator, if you take the cap off, carefully, when running there is very little to any coolant movement. I'm pretty sure the radiator is just clogged up, but what I'm asking is could it be the water pump?

Most water pumps I change are leaking not a flow issue. As long as your belt is properly tensioned, the pump should be working. It is possible the pulley is loose on the shaft or bad bearings in the pump but it should be easy to figure out if this is the case. I'd be lookin at the radiator myself.
