Quick Simple Question lookin for quick simple answer

So, I've owned my Jeep well over a year now, and not once have I noticed something I noticed tonight. So I'm wondering if something is wrong, or if this is normal and some how I've just overlooked it. Tonight I got home and was walkin to my door and glanced back at the ol' girl, and realized that my underhood lamp was still on (even though my hood is closed).... Is this normal? I would assume it SHOULD be off?

If it supposed to be off as I suspect, my next question would be which fuse can I pull as a "quick" fix for now? Thanks!

that's almost like does the refrigerator light go off when you shut the door?!

It shouldn't be on so I'd just look in the manual for the fuse location or just pull out the bulb/ unclip the harness (if it's right there, I can't remember). Figure it out in the morning.

Good luck

Better pull the bulb, just to be safe. Not much worse than a dead battery when you're alredy late and its cold out and you forget your wallet, and so on. You know its never just one bad thing.Ha ha

I just pulled off the cover on mine and it looks like there's a position switch but I don't know how it works. Check yours to see if something looks stuck or corroded. I hate those lights. You just reminded me to delete it permanently like I have on every other vehicle I've ever owned.

It is a mercury switch that contacts when open and is SUPPOSED to disconnect when laying flat or past a ceartin point. Mine was mounted upside down when i got it so It would never come on. Might check that and make sure your mercury tube did not break as well. The contacts should be fine unless a wire came off the end of the tube, the actual contacts for the switch I believe are sealed inside the tube. Hope that helps...

Mine wasn't working when I bought my Jeep, so I replaced it. Pretty cheap, and damn nice to have when you neet to be under the hood when it is dark out. Really glad to have it.

I read somewhere that car (and Jeep ) manufacturers no longer use mercury switches for things like hood lights due to the issues with mercury. Anyone know how the new switches work if that's true?

A good quick fix is to have a wrench slip off while doing a knuckle buster move and smash it to pieces with your elbow. A few choice words while performing this act will add to it's effectiveness. Or so I've heard.
